Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait is used to treat various areas for gophers and other rodents. The bait is placed directly into the gopher burrow where they will ingest it. After the Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait is ingested, it creates a toxic gas causing the rodent to die within a few hours.

There are various ways to apply Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait to ensure it reaches the target pest. It is ideal to use on golf courses, vineyards, parks and nurseries to keep gophers and other rodents from tearing up property.

Tools Needed

To find gopher burrows and to apply the bait into the burrows, a metal rod or a Gopher Bait Injector is needed. When applying Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait to vineyards or orchards, a trail builder machine is needed.

It is recommended to bait areas such as the base of trees, the opening of hole leading to burrows, or on surface trails by hand baiting.

Gopher Holes

How to Use

  • Step 1: First, identify the targeted rodent and where they are located as there are different rates and methods of application depending on rodent and location. You should also calculate the size of the area you wish to treat in acres to determine how much bait you will need. This can be done by measuring the area length and width (in feet) and then multiplying the values to get the square footage then dividing the square footage by 43,560 to get the acreage (length x width = square footage /43,560 = Acreage).
  • Step 2: Runways can be located with the help of a gopher probe, metal rod, or a stick. Using the tool, probe the ground 10 to 15 inches away from gopher mounds that are fan-shaped. If your probe sinks into the ground easily without resistance, you have found the runway.
  • Step 3: When treating for gophers, apply the Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait by hand at a rate of 4 grams in each main runway that you are able to locate using a long-handled spoon or mechanical probe. Apply two to five bait placements per burrow system then cover the opening with dirt to block sunlight. One pound of bait can treat 1 to 8 acres depending on the number of gopher burrow systems present.
  • Step 4: For ground squirrel control on lawns, ornamentals, golf courses and parks, you should prebait with untreated steamed, crimped oats by placing a teaspoon or 4 grams around each active runway or burrow opening. Wait 2 or 3 days and then bait with the Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait. Place the bait in tamper-proof bait stations if children, pets or unintended targets might access the bait.

Where to Use

Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait can be applied around outdoor areas, such as vineyards, orchards, groves, or around ornamental and non-bearing trees at nurseries. For California Ground Squirrels, the bait can be used in lawns, ornamentals, golf courses, parks, and nurseries. This product cannot be used around residential areas or areas where endangered species are inhabiting. When using Wilco Zinc Phosphide Gopher Bait as a broadcast application, it must be applied to areas with thick vegetation and grass. Bait must not be applied on roads, over water or where plants are grown for food or feed.
