Talstar Xtra Granular Insecticide

Talstar Xtra Granular Insecticide from FMC Professional Solutions is a great product for treating outdoor insect infestations around the home. Made with the active ingredients Bifenthrin and Zeta-Cypermethrin, Talstar Xtra come in small sand granules for a better penetration into surfaces, is dust free and a very low odor. Talstar Xtra Granular Insecticides added ingredients helps eliminate colonies within hours instead of days and is labeled to treat more than 18 insects.

Tools Needed

To use Talstar Xtra Granular Insecticide you will need the help of a broadcast spreader. You could use a push spreader or hand spreader based on your preference.

How to Use

Step 1: Inspect and identify the problem pest on your turf and then calculate the area you wish to be treated to determine the application rate for treatment. To do this, measure (in feet) the area length and width and multiply the two values (length x width = square footage). For a typical turfgrass application the rate of Talstar Xtra 2.3 to 4.6 pounds per 1,000 square feet. So for example, if you measured an area that is 3,000 sq. ft., you would need 6.9 to 13.8 lbs. of Talstar Xtra to cover the entire area.
Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the right spreader setting for application and load the granules into the spreader. 
Step 3: Uniformly spread the insecticide granules across your lawn, this may take at least two walkthroughs for even coverage. Once you have evenly covered the land, water the treated area to activate the insecticide.
Step 4: Wait a minimum of 7 days to retreat. Treat periodically throughout the season every 30 days for solid season-long control.

Where to Use

Talstar Xtra can be applied on lawns and landscape areas, in surrounding residential, institutional, public, commercial and industrial buildings, parks, recreational areas, and athletic fields.

When to Use

Use Talstar Xtra when there are turf insects on your property that are damaging plants. The prime time turf insects show up are in the early spring between March and April. It is also great for treating fire ant infestations.

Safety Information

Talstar Xtra is safe to use as directed on the label. Make sure to have on the proper PPE when applying the product to your lawn and keep pets and children away from the treated area so they don't pick up granules.

Special Considerations

If the soil is dry, remember to irrigate with water before and after application to activate the product. Do not apply more than 0.25 lb. active ingredient (ai.) per acre (2.3 lbs granules per 1000 sq. ft.) per application on residential use sites (i.e., around private homes, apartment buildings, condominiums, non-agricultural outbuildings, non-commercial greenhouses, pre-schools or daycare facilities).
