SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide
06/10/26
SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide, manufactured by PBI Gordon, is a selective post-emergent weed killer that will control over 83 different weeds like clover or spurge in warm-seasoned turf and cool-season turf.
This emulsifiable concentrate product is rainfast within 3 hours and offers visible activity in hours with complete control being achieved within 7 to 14 days. With its unique low odor formulation and small droplet size, it results in better coverage with minimum amount of product.
SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide as an ideal herbicide to use on sensitive southern grass species and proves less odoress than original SpeedZone Southern Broadleaf Herbicide.
Tools Needed
SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide can be applied with a tank sprayer, spray rig, boom sprayer, backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or hose-end sprayer.
How to Use

- Step 1: First, determine which weed(s) you are targeting, the turfgrass type and the square footage of the area to be treated. This is important because if applied in a non-labeled area, SpeedZone Southern EW Herbicide may damage or kill the turf. To calculate square footage, measure and multiply the area length times the width (length x width = square footage). To treat weeds on Kentucky bluegrass, annual bluegrass, annual and perennial ryegrass, tall fescue, red or fine leaf fescues, or bentgrass use 1.5 to 2.2 oz. of SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For bermudagrass, bahiagrass, buffalograss, centipedegrass, seashore paspalum, St. Augustinegrass, and zoysiagrass use 0.7 to 1.5 oz. of product per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: In a sprayer tank, fill the tank halfway with the required amount of water and then add the proper measured amount of Speedzone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide according to your calculations. Mix and fill the rest of the way with the required amount of water and then agitate the sprayer until the product is well-mixed.
- Step 3: Make a uniform application to targeted weeds, being sure not to overspray or overlap and prevent any drift, When using a flat fan nozzle tip, spray the weeds at a suitable height to get even coverage. Moving your arms, such as in a swinging motion, will not give you a uniform spray.
- Step 4: Stay off the treated areas until dry and do not mow until 2 days have passed. Do not water the area for the first 3 hours.
Where to Use
SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide can be used on southern warm-season and some cool-season turfgrasses found in residential lawns, apartment complexes, condominiums. Ornamental turf sites around parks, streets, retail outlets, cemeteries, industrial and institutional buildings, recreation areas, playgrounds, fairgrounds, and athletic fields. Non-cropland sites including farmyards, fencerows or fence lines, highway rights-of-ways (principal, interstate, county, private, and unpaved roads): roadsides, roadside ditches, road shoulders, road embankments, dividers, and medians; industrial sites: lumberyards, tank farms, fuel or equipment storage areas; municipal, state, and federal lands: airports and military installations, railroad rights-of-ways, railroad yards, railroad crossings and railroad bridge abutments; utility rights-of-ways: telephone, pipeline, electrical powerlines, and communication transmission lines. Agricultural sites like commercial sod production.
Do not apply to golf course greens.
Do not apply this product to 'Floratam' and 'Bitterblue' varieties of St. Augustinegrass, bentgrass mowed under 1/4 inch, carpetgrass, dichondra, legumes, and lawns where desirable clovers are present.
When to Use
Use SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide when you have broadleaf weed growth throughout the year. It is best to apply this when daytime air temperatures is above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, soil moisture is adequate, and weeds are young and actively growing.
If dry conditions exist, irrigation 24 hours before and 24 hours after the application will increase weed control.
Safety Information
Speedzone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide is safe to use when applied according to product label instructions. Always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this herbicide.
Do not apply this in around any bodies of water, drainage areas, or agricultural irrigation systems.
Keep all people and pets off the treated areas until dry.
Special Considerations
SpeedZone Southern EW Broadleaf Herbicide can actually be mixed with liquid fertilizers or adjuvants like surfactants or drift reducing agents, to give you a broader spectrum of control. But remember to always read labels for use restrictions and test your mixed solution on a small, discreet patch of grass to monitor any adverse effects.
Temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, moist soil, and high humidity will tend to increase herbicide activity. These conditions will also increase the possibility of temporary turf discoloration.
