04/10/26
Prodiamine 4L Pre-Emergent Herbicide, manufactured by Quali-Pro, is a pre-emergent herbicide that controls many different common weeds like carpetweed, crabgrass, and more.
As a pre-emergent herbicide it will control the weeds before they emerge, but will not kill present weeds that have already emerged. It has an active ingredient of Prodiamine 40.8%, which is ideal for controlling weeds on turfgrasses, sod farms, lawns, Christmas tree farms, and ornamentals.
This easy to mix product is ideal for year long season control and ensures that annual or perennial weeds, and wildflower plantings by creating a barrier on the top of the soil for up to 6 months.
Tools Needed:
To apply Prodiamine 4L for a small volume application, you can use a pump sprayer, a backpack sprayer or a hose-end sprayer. For large volume application, you can apply using a spraying rig.
How to Use:
- Step 1: Determine how much Prodiamine you will need by first measuring the square footage (length x width) of your lawn. Depending on the weed you are trying to control and the turf type, the maximum application rate can range anywhere from 0.23 oz. to 1.1 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft per calendar year. For large applications with a professional spray rig the maximum rate can range anywhere from 21 lbs. to 48 fl. oz. per acre per calendar year. For example, if you wanted to apply Prodiamine on Bermudagrass and measured a 2,000 sq. ft. area for treatment, the rate is 0.5 to 1.1. fl. oz. per 1000 sq. ft. so you would need to mix 1 to 2 fl. oz. in 2 gallons of water to cover the entire area.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water. Measure the required amount of product and add it to the sprayer. Fill your sprayer with the rest of the water and thoroughly agitate it and you’re ready to apply. The amount of Quali-Pro Prodiamine 4L to apply depends upon the length of residual weed control desired (the higher the application rate, the longer the control), the turf species, and the maximum amount which can be applied to the turf species per calendar year.
- Step 3: Apply the Prodiamine solution over the desired area, following label instructions regarding your application method and what plants are being applied too. Applications can vary depending on these factors so it is important to read the label beforehand to understand how to properly apply the product.
- Step 4: Reapply as needed, following label instructions regarding your application type. After use, thoroughly clean the sprayer by flushing the system with water containing a detergent.
Where to Use:
Use Prodiamine turfgrasses (excluding golf course putting greens) lawns and sod nurseries ornamentals and Christmas tree farms.

Prodiamine 4L is most commonly used as a soil application over plants that are already established, so it may not be the best option for plants that are still young. Refer to the label for proper application timings, as they can vary depending on the climate, targeted weed, and application method.
