Pastora Herbicide, manufactured by Bayer, is a dry-flowable granule herbicide meant to be used on agricultural sites.
It is a selective herbicide and can control broadleaf weeds pre-emergently and can control grassy weeds post-emergently.
Pastora can control weeds like sandbur, johnsongrass and bahiagrass as well as 26 other grasses found in ranges and agricultural fields. This is great for livestock farmers and managers that want a better quality forage for their horses and cattle that graze on bermudagrass.
Tools Needed
To use Pastora Herbicide, you will need to mix the product into a sprayer of your choosing such as a backpack, hose-end or hand-pump sprayer. For the average job, a hand-pump gallon sprayer works best.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Pastora Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment site. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). Apply 1.0 to 1.5 oz. of Pastora Herbicide per 100 gallons of water per acre as a broadcast application to established bermudagrass pastures. For spot applications, mix 2.5 oz. of product per 100 gallons of water per acre. Do not apply more than 2.5 oz. of Pastora Herbicide per acre per year for use in bermudagrass pastures and non-agricultural uses. Do not make more than 2 applications of this product per year.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water, add measured amount of Pastora Herbicide, then pour in remaining half of water. Close the spray tank lid and shake until solution is evenly mixed.
- Step 3: Broadcast spray or spot treat based on the severity of your weed problem, making sure to get even coverage via fan spray setting. After application, apply 1-2 inches of irrigation (enough to wet the top 2-3 inches of soil profile) to move the product into the weed root zone to control weeds. Allow at least 16 days between applications of Pastora Herbicide if a second treatment is needed.
Where to Use
Pastora Herbicide is meant to only be used on bedmudagrass pastures and hayfields.
Broadleaf pasture species, such as alfalfa and clover, are highly sensitive to Pastora Herbicide and will be severely stunted or injured.
Do not use on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts, golf courses, athletic fields, or other high-maintenance, fine turfgrass areas, or similar areas.
When to Use
Apply Pastora Herbicide to bermudagrass pastures and hay meadows that have been established for at least one growing season. To get the best results, apply it to young, actively growing broadleaf and grassy weeds. For broadleaf weeds, treat when they are less than 4" and grass weeds are less than 2" tall or in diameter (natural size - not after mowing or grazing).
Spring or summer applications of this product may temporarily reduce grass reduction. Crop response is minimized by treating when bermudagrass has less than 2" of new growth during the initial green-up or by treating soon after cutting for hay (before 1 to 2 inches of new bermudagrass growth appears).
Do not apply to frozen or snow-covered ground as surface runoff may occur.
Safety Information
Pastora Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Coveralls, shoes, plus socks must be worn if cutting within 4 hours of treatment. Do not enter within 4 hours of treatment if cutting hay for sale.
There are no grazing or haying restrictions for non-lactating or lactating livestock including cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and other animals when using Pastora Herbicide as directed. Grazing animals do not have to be moved off the pasture before, during, or after applying Pastora Herbicide.
Special Considerations
Applications of Pastora Herbicide may result in temporary yellowing or stunting of bermudagrass. Crop response is more likely if bermudagrass is stressed from adverse weather conditions (such as drought, extreme temperatures, or moisture), abnormal soil conditions (such as low soils low in potassium), or cultural practices (such as over-grazing).
