Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer
04/10/26
Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer, manufactured by VPG, is a effective post-emergent herbicide aimed to control a select, but vast group of broadleaf weeds and noxious plants within lawns, ponds, and other terrains.
This post emergent herbicide contains the powerful active ingredient 2,4-D 11.84%, which can be used for selective weed control for hard to control weeds like dandelion. 2,4-D, the active ingredient, successfully kills biennial and perennial broadleaf weeds and woody plants with only 2 applications per year.
Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer's active ingredient 2,4-D works well to kill or control a large amount of broadleaf weeds and noxious plants such as poison ivy, blessed thistle, honeysuckle, stinging nettle, and many others. As a selective herbicide, it will target broadleaf weeds while leaving most turf grasses unharmed.
Tools Needed
For Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer use a type of hand held sprayer, backpack sprayer, hose end sprayer or a spray rig for a large area to be treated. You will want to use a handheld sprayer to better control the spray drift when applying Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Do this by measuring the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiplying them together (length X width = square feet). To find acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). In established pastures, rangelands, ornamental turf, and non-crop areas use 1 gallon of Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer in 15 gallons of water per acre. For small pasture and rangeland areas, use 3 to 4 fl. oz. (6 to 8 Tablespoons) of product per 1-3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For aquatic weed control, use 1 gallon of this product in 25 gallons of water per acre.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer with half the amount of water, then add the required amount of Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer, then fill with the remaining half of water. Close the sprayer tank lid and agitate the spray mixture evenly.
- Step 3: Spray the targeted broadleaf weed or noxious plants until evenly coated with the spray mixture. Spray to the point of wet, not runoff. Product will only be applied twice a year. No reapplication necessary until 30 days have at least passed after application.
Where to Use
Use Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer on turf on residential and agricultural lawns, and other non-crop areas such as established pastures, rangelands, ornamental turf (lawn, golf courses, cemeteries, parks, and other grass areas), non crop areas (airfields, right-of-way, fencerows, roadsides, vacant lots, drainage ditch-banks and similar places), and aquatic weed control (floating and emergent weeds applied through surface application).
When to Use
Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer can be used in the fall, but it is mainly used during warm weather. As long as temperatures are below 90 degrees Fahrenheit and there is no predicted rainfall then the spray mixture will be effective. Apply on calm days when wind speeds are low to minimize drift.
Safety Information
Hi-Yield 2,4-D is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) before when mixing and applying this product.
Application to water may require local and state authorities communication and approval either through a letter of agreement or issue of special permits before applying spray mixture to a body of water.
Do not enter or allow people (or pets) to enter the treated area until sprays have dried.
Special considerations
Adding oil, wetting agent, or other surfactant to the spray may increase Hi-Yield 2,4-D Selective Weed Killer's effectiveness on weeds but also may reduce selectivity to crops resulting in crop damage.
