Halo 5 WDG Select
Halo 5 WDG Select, manufactured by Prime Source LLC, is post-emergent, selective herbicide that is recommended for the control of actively growing sedges, Kyllingia species, and certain broadleaf weeds like ragweed.
This product contains a water-soluble granular formulation that can successfully penetrate the surface of the soil and work its way to the targeted weed roots. Effectively eliminating or suppressing weeds without the need of a surfactant since it is already formulated with an non-ionic surfactant.
Halo 5 WDG is an easy to apply herbicide that comes in the form of a pouch, but can still control the toughest of weeds without harming desired foliage.
Tools Needed
To apply Halo 5 WDG, a backpack sprayer, pump sprayer, or professional spray rig is needed. For spot treatments, we recommend using a handheld pump sprayer.
Applications through any type of irrigation system, through air, or ground boom equipment is not approved on the product label.
How to Use
- Step 1: Before applying the product, do not mow the treatment area at least 2 days before and after application. Determine how much Halo 5 WDG Select to use by measuring the square footage of your treatment area. To find this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet and then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For general spot treatments, mix 0.5 oz. (13.5 grams or 1 pouch) of Halo 5 WDG Select per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For post-emergent control of horsetail, apply 1 oz. (27 grams or 2 pouches) of product per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer halfway with the required amount of water, add the appropriate amount of Halo 5 WDG Select, then pour in the remaining half of water. Close the lid to the sprayer tank and shake to ensure an even mixture.
- Step 3: Adjust the sprayer to a low height and set to a fan-spray setting to avoid drift during application. Spray the top and bottom of weeds to the point of wet, but avoid run-off. This product often works with 1 application, but depending on the size and age of the nutsedge a second retreatment may be required 6 to 10 weeks after the first application.
Where to Use
Use Halo 5 WDG Select on warm-seasoned and cool-seasoned turfgrass including commercial and residential, golf courses, established lawns, ornamental turfgrass, established woody ornamentals in landscaped areas, fallow areas, fence rows, fuel storage areas, lumberyards, tank farms, right of way, roadsides, and non-crop sites like airports, campgrounds, cemeteries, fairgrounds, public recreation areas, race tracks, residential property, school grounds, sport fields, and tennis courts.
This product should not be applied over the top of desirable flowers, ornamentals, vegetables, shrubs, trees, and golf course putting greens.
When to Use
For best results, spray Halo 5 WDG Select when nutsedge has reached the 3 to 8 leaf stage of growth. Apply when your turfgrass and nutsedge is not under any stress and when its root system is established to avoid injury. Spray Halo 5 WDG Select on warm days when rain is not forecasted 24 hours after application and when wind speeds are below 10 miles per hour.
