Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench
04/09/26
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench, manufactured by VPG, Inc., is a systemic insecticide used to control a variety of insects like adelgids and aphids from destroying your outdoor trees, shrubs, listed fruit trees and nut trees.
When this suspended concentrate is applied to the soil surrounding the tree or shrub, it will absorb into the shrub/trees roots becoming a part of the plants system. Once absorbed into the soil, Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench will help to protect current trees or shrubs for up to a year against pests, but also spread to new plants beginning to grow.
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench is an easy to use insecticide that readily dissolves in water to fight against pests without being washed off by rain or water.
Tools Needed
To apply Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench, you will need a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, bucket, or measuring utensil.
Bucket or measuring utensils should not be used for any food or drinking water purposes after use with this product.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine the size of the tree or shrub you intend to treat to determine how much Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench to use. To do this, measure the distance around the tree trunk or the height of the shrub. Measure distance in inches around the tree trunk at chest height. For every tree trunk inch you measure will be 1 fl. oz of product. If there are multiple tree trunks, add their tree trunks together, then multiple by 0.75. For example, if one tree trunk has four trunks and they measure 20, 5, 10, and 5 inches or a total of 40 inches (40 X .75 = 30 ounces of product to use). For shrubs, you will use 3 fl. oz. of product per foot of height.
- Step 2: To mix, fill your sprayer, bucket, or water can with 1 gallon of water, then agitate the measured amount of Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench before applying to water. If your tree exceeds 50 inches then use 2 gallons of water. Carefully pour the product into the required amount of water within your sprayer or other equipment. Agitate until spray mixture is evenly mixed.
- Step 3: Go to treatment area and slowly pour the solution around the trunk/main stem of the tree/shrub as close as possible.
- Step 4: Refill the sprayer, bucket, or watering can with clean water and pour it around the trunk as well.
Where to Use
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench can be used on outdoor trees and shrubs, including certain types of fruit and nut trees such as apple, crabapple, pecan, loquat, mayhaw, quince, oriental pear, and pear.
Do not apply this product by any application method, to linden, basswood or other Tilia species in the State of Oregon.
When to Use
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Drench can be used anytime of the year, preferably in the early fall before insect activity begins. Apply this product when the turf is not waterlogged or frozen for the product to move more easily into the plants roots. If there has been a prolonged dry period, you will want to water the tree or shrub the night before application.
