Grassmaster Herbicide (formerly called Dicamba Plus 2,4-D Herbicide), manufactured by Alligare, is a selective post-emergent herbicide used for controlling a wide spectrum of annual, biennial, and perennial broadleaf weeds and brush in grass forages and agricultural settings.

This emulsifiable concentrate product is both easy to mix and use. Grassmaster Herbicide is quickly absorbed by plants through their roots and interferes with the plant's growth hormones, resulting in the death of many broadleaf weeds.

Grassmaster Herbicide effectively controls weeds like cocklebur or chickweed within 45 days of application.

Tools Needed

Grassmaster Herbicide can be applied with a hand-held sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig. We recommend using a spray rig for large-volume applications.

How to Use

Spraying selective herbicides

  • Step 1: Determine how much Grassmaster Herbicide you will need to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). The mixing rate will vary depending on the type of weed you are treating. For annual weeds, you will use anywhere between 0.5 and 4 pints of Grassmaster Herbicide per acre. For biennial and perennial weeds, you will use anywhere between 0.5 and 5 pints of product. Use between 5 and 40 gallons of water per acre for optimal application. Use the higher spray volume for dense or tall vegetation. For spot and small area applications, use 1 fluid ounce of product per gallon of water.
  • Step 2: Once you have properly measured your area and determined how much Grassmaster Herbicide you will need, you are ready to create your solution. Fill your sprayer halfway with water, then add the required amount of herbicide to the tank. Replace the cap and agitate by shaking the sprayer. Add your required amount of Alligare 90 and the remaining water, then repeat agitation until herbicide solution is thoroughly mixed.
  • Step 3: Now that your solution is created, you can begin applying treatment. For maximum results, thoroughly cover the weeds with spray. You should be applying your solution to the point of runoff. Be sure to get even coverage when applying. Check your spray settings; this will affect the way your solution is applied onto the weeds.

Where to Use

Grassmaster Herbicide is designed for use on agricultural lands, croplands, ranges, and pastures. It is also used to control brush and broadleaf weeds on rights-of-way, forest brush, industrial sites, and other labeled non-crop areas. See the label for the full list.

When to Use

Apply Grassmaster Herbicide when weeds are young and growing since this is when they are most vulnerable. Use this product on a day where wind speeds are lower than 15 mph and the temperature does not exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Safety Information

Before applying this product, make sure to put on the proper PPE for safety (long sleeved clothing, gloves, face mask, goggles). The product is safe for pets and kids when used according to the label. Pets and children should not be present during treatment and should remain out of the treated areas until they have completely dried.

This product is toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms. Do not apply to water or areas near bodies of water.

Special Considerations

Because Grassmaster Herbicide is a post-emergent herbicide, it will only work after weeds have become visible on your land.
